Aviation student’s flight training completion at risk to Transport Canada delays

An aviation student from Liard First Nation in the Yukon has been waiting 10 months for a medical certificate from Transport Canada, putting her ability to complete her flight training at risk. Amber Jensen needs the certificate to complete her 100 hours of solo flight time and attain her commercial pilot license through the Northerners Taking Flight School, reports CBC. However, the flight school—which is operated as a partnership between Alkan Air, Ross River Dena Council, and the Liard First Nation—is slated to close at the end of November when its contract expires, with no renewal expected. Jensen shared that she has spent over $2K fulfilling Transport Canada’s testing requirements. “I’m feeling frustrated,” she said. “The longer they delay, the less time I have to get my Commercial Pilots License done.”
