Three Indigenous communities have celebrated the opening of new schools. Ebb and Flow First Nation recently opened its new Kindergarten to Grade 6 school, which has space for 768 students. The Ebb and Flow Elementary School is shaped like an eagle in flight, representing one of the seven sacred teachings, and includes facilities such as a library/resource centre, an Elders lounge, and an outdoor recreational space. The community’s existing school is also being renovated to serve grades 7-12. In Fort Severn, the new Keewaytinook Internet High School building was opened with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and community feast. The school features community classrooms, where students can take classes and complete schoolwork through the learning management system Moodle. In Wabasca, the Northland School Division celebrated the grand opening of the new Mistassiniy School, which combines western learning with traditional Indigenous language and culture. The school features artwork throughout the facility.
