Academic integrity issues on the ON bar exam and the academic dishonesty industry: Opinion

The Star Courts Reporters Betsy Powell and Alyshah Hasham discuss how the investigation into cheating on Ontario’s bar exam has exposed the academic dishonesty industry. The allegations’ seriousness has uncovered “contract cheating” enabled by people representing themselves as National Committee on Accreditation employees sharing legitimate exam resources, but who are actually selling leaked information. Powell and Hasham write that these issues are just one part of the increase in “contract cheating.” Resources sold to prevent cheating have also increased to address the cheating, but Sarah Eaton, a faculty member in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary, says that cheating must be addressed holistically and that related decisions must be based on data.
