In a recent Yellowknife city council meeting, Aurora College pitched the idea of building a new campus on Tin Can Hill. The council was asked to vote on signing an MOU with the Government of the Northwest Territories and Aurora regarding the new location, which would allow Aurora to begin planning and designing the Tin Can Hill location and to prepare an estimate for the cost of construction. The site would provide more space for Aurora to transform its programming as it becomes a polytechnic university. “In Yellowknife, specifically, the existing facility has become an obstacle to growth,” said Chris Joseph, assistant deputy minister of postsecondary education renewal for the NWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment. “Northern United Place has been a great partner to our college and will continue to be for the next few years, but we know through the medium and long term, it does not have the space required to construct and develop a polytechnic university.” CBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
