Brandon University and the Brandon University Faculty Association have issued a joint statement to reaffirm their commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The two parties emphasized the importance of EDI principles to creating a welcoming environment, supporting academic freedom, and improving the institution and mission. They further acknowledged the role that universities have played in perpetuating racism and inequality, as well as the responsibility they have in repairing the damage. Looking to the future, BrandonU and BUFA have committed to integrating EDI into collegial governance, research, teaching, and service and noted that a new EDI Strategic Plan will guide further action. Several students and faculty members spoke to CBC about the importance of defending equity, diversity, and inclusion, given that this has become an important issue in international and national politics.
