In a recent editorial for The Coast, reporter Lauren Phillips discusses the challenges that the University of King’s College is facing to completing much-needed energy efficiency upgrades. Phillips details the retrofits needed on U of King’s College’s campus to improve and decarbonize its heating and cooling processes. The university has had difficulty attaining adequate funding or being approved for loans to complete the projects, an issue that Dalhousie University Office of Sustainability Executive Director Rochelle Owen said is common to all institutions across Atlantic Canada. Phillips discusses some of the ways that U of King’s College has overcome these challenges, such as partnering with Dalhousie University on grant applications in order to increase the size of the projects and meet minimum funding parameters.
