Law Society of Nunavut eliminates additional exam for Nunavut Law Program graduates

The Law Society of Nunavut has eliminated a statutes exam that Nunavut Law Program graduates previously had to pass in order to be called to the bar. Students in the program requested that the additional closed-book exam be removed due to concerns that included how exam candidates already had successfully completed the CPLED + PREP Bar Admission program, the transition from an open-book test, and how lawyers who transfer from other jurisdictions are not required to complete the exam. The Law Society has waived the requirement in light of the feedback, and those who were scheduled to complete the exam in September or who completed the exam in May will have their fees refunded.
