The Government of Manitoba has enacted the Accessible Information and Communication Standard Regulation under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act. The standard will be applied to a variety of public and private organizations, including postsecondary institutions, to reduce barriers to accessing information. Institutions will be required to develop policies and practices to boost accessibility, provide relevant staff with training, ensure their websites must meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) Level AA, and ensure student materials meet accessibility requirements. The standard will be applied to government departments in a year, public-sector organizations in two years, and other employers in three years.
