McMaster faculty member resigns after research misconduct investigation

CBC reports that former Canada 150 Research Chair and McMaster University faculty member Jonathan Pruitt has formally resigned from McMaster as an investigation and hearing process focused on allegations of research misconduct continues. Pruitt had been put on leave in November 2021 after external complaints of research misconduct were made against him regarding work conducted between 2011 and 2015. Pruitt joined McMaster later in 2018 and received a Canada 150 Research Chair position, and following the complaints, McMaster placed Pruitt on paid administrative leave and investigated the complaints under its Research Integrity Policy. McMaster has completed an investigation of the allegations, and Pruitt’s resignation was announced before the hearing was concluded.
