McMaster launches master’s degree in Midwifery Education

McMaster University has launched the Midwifery Education Program (MEP), which it says is the first Master of Science degree of its kind for midwives in Canada. The MSc program will be offered primarily online with core courses in leadership, social justice and system change, and research and evaluation. Students will complete two week-long in-person residencies in Hamilton. The program will accept up to eight full-time and 16 part-time students in its first year, with the goal of expanding midwifery care in Canada with a focus on underserved groups. “The new master’s degree is an exciting opportunity for midwives to develop as professionals and to contribute to improving health care for the people we serve,” said McMaster MEP assistant dean Liz Darling.
