Three Memorial University students who were arrested and charged with trespassing during the pro-Palestine protests last summer are now planning to file a Charter challenge. The students were originally charged with trespassing; the Crown has since decided that it is no longer in the public interest to pursue the case and has dismissed it. However, the students are calling for a judicial review and are planning a Charter challenge against the university on the grounds that Memorial violated their right to free expression. CBC and VOCM report that Memorial has stated that it has no issue with student protests, but it does not permit the ongoing occupation of a building.
