Meta to open Canadian engineering hub to support metaverse, provide $510K in unrestricted grants to university labs

Meta Platforms Inc has announced that it will be opening a new Canadian engineering hub in Toronto. As part of the opening plan, Meta will be providing $510K in unrestricted grants to researchers from 17 labs at various universities to support research focusing on innovations that will advance the metaverse. Researchers will receive $30K from Reality Labs Research, which will enable them to autonomously and flexibly complete research and collaborate with others in order to drive innovation in the field. The universities that will benefit from the funding include Dalhousie University, McGill University, OCAD University, Ontario Tech University, Simon Fraser University, Université Laval, University of British Columbia, University of Saskatchewan, University of Toronto, and University of Waterloo.
