QC universities report decline in international student applications

According to a recent report from the Canadian Press (CP), international student applications are “plummeting” at some Québec universities. Some of the QC universities that typically host the highest proportion of students from abroad—including Institut national de recherche scientifique, the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, the École de technologie supérieure, and Polytechnique Montréal—have reportedly seen a decline in international student applications. INRS Spokesperson Julie Robert—among others—attributes these declines to the federal international study permit cap as well as additional quotas that may be implemented by the Government of Québec, both of which Robert says “only add to the fears of potential candidates from abroad.”
