U Sports has announced that it will not be sending a delegation to the 2022 World University Games, which are to be held in Chengdu, China in the summer. “We have consulted national sports organizations and universities to assess scheduling, financial and the health and safety implications of participation in the Games and determined that it was in Canada’s best interest to withdraw at this time,” said U Sports interim CEO Dick White. U Sports previously cancelled its participation in the 2021 FISU Winter Games in Switzerland due to the Omicron variant, and there are calls to relocate the 2023 summer games, which are currently scheduled to be held in Russia.
