UBC president selected to lead UMichigan

The appointment of University of British Columbia President Santa Ono to the presidency at the University of Michigan has made international news. The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News reports that UMichigan has been the subject of several scandals in recent years, including the removal of a president for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, numerous allegations of sexual assault by a campus doctor, and a lawsuit related to sexual misconduct. “I have a lot of direct experience in the damage that these sorts of things, sexual assault and harassment, have on young men and women,” said Ono in a Q&A session with reporters. “And so, it’s unacceptable.” Ono has served at UBC for six years and was recently reappointed in 2020.
