UBCO announces development of on-campus food hub

The University of British Columbia Okanagan and its student union have announced the development of an on-campus food hub called Picnic. Picnic will focus on addressing increasing food insecurity that is being experienced by students through an expanded student food bank, a farmers’ market, a community garden, and a nutrition education centre. It will offer a variety of supports such as a free breakfast program, access to low-cost meals, and community meals focused on different cultures. Infotel reports that the hub could include a low-cost grocery store in the future. The project is funded by the student union, UBCO, and KGH Foundation.
