UCalgary UCVM to receive almost $67M over three years to double enrolment

The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is receiving almost $67M from the Government of Alberta over three years in order to train more veterinarians and address the shortage of animal health professionals in the province. $58.5M in capital funding will be used to build the new infrastructure needed to double its enrolment, while $8.4M will go toward supporting the increased enrolment. New seats will be added each fall, with the full program doubling to 100 students by 2024. “This funding from the Government of Alberta will ensure that the University of Calgary can train enough new veterinarians to help address the shortage of animal health professionals in our province, while also supporting the growth of a major economic sector,” said UCalgary President Dr Ed McCauley.
