University of Manitoba Director of Security Gordon Perrier spoke to The Manitoba, the University of Manitoba’s student newspaper, to share tips on how students can stay safe on campus at night. Noting the campus’s size and the shorter daylight hours, Perrier encouraged students to stay alert while walking at night, opt for brightly lit study spaces such as the campus libraries, and using techniques like checking in with others to stay safe. Perrier also discusses the Code Blue emergency poles and Emergency Red phones that are posted across the institution’s campuses so that students can immediately contact security services if they are in distress, as well as the UM Safe Walk app that students can download and activate to get support from security services.
