Université de Sherbrooke has shut down its rugby program, bringing an end to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or after 25 years. The university stated that the program faced declining participation and safety concerns, and Director of Sports Excellence Simon Croteau says that the decision was not taken lightly. However, women’s coach Andi Smith shared that she was surprised by the news, as the women’s team had 28 players on roster and was looking forward to a strong 2023 season. “I’ve already started contacting other schools to see if they’ll credit my years that I’ve completed at Sherbrooke,” said student Claudia Mooney. “I don’t really want to go to Montreal or elsewhere because I’m from here. …My whole life is in Sherbrooke.” CBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
