UWinnipeg launches three Indigenous language certificates

The University of Winnipeg has launched three new Indigenous language certificates. Starting in Fall 2022, students who are interested in adding Indigenous language knowledge to their current degree or who are interested in a shorter program will be able to complete the certificates. The certificates focus on teaching proficiency in a local Indigenous language and providing students with the historical context on language revitalization. Courses include Indigenous Language Revitalization, which focuses on revitalization planning and communication; Teaching Indigenous Languages for Vitality, which will focus on preparing language teachers how to develop language immersion curricula and increase language use; and Supporting Multilingualism and Indigenous Languages, which will focus on teaching educators and leaders how to co-construct multilingual learning environments.
