Western University has launched an Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineering (AISE) program. Students will earn a combined degree by completing either a civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical and mechatronic systems engineering program along with an AI specialization. Students will need to complete their common first year in engineering before they are eligible to enter the program, where they will develop their skills in computing and software development, machine learning and data engineering, IoT networks and systems, and signal processing and system design. “Everything is moving toward computer support, whether it is in civil engineering and smart cities, mechanical engineering and intelligent manufacturing, or process control and chemical engineering,” said Jeffrey Wood, associate dean of undergraduate studies at Western. “Now that we have the computing power to handle big data in real time, engineers can really make use of those capabilities.” The program will launch in Fall 2022.
