Universities such as Laurentian University, York University, the University of New Brunswick, and University of Alberta have embarked on research projects and initiatives to address ‘the tragedy of homelessness,’ reports Becky Rynor of University Affairs. Rynor describes the work being undertaken at the universities to better understand homelessness and the factors associated with it. At UAlberta, Rynor highlights the efforts to understand and address the rising problem of student homelessness. The university is providing holistic support for homeless students in the form of medium-term housing along with social support, food assistance, and career counselling.
