UCN to build Indigenous gathering spaces, celebrates opening of Fab Lab

Two important announcements have come out of the University College of the North recently. UCN was one of the recipients of Prairie Economic Development Canada’s $2.3M investment in northern Manitoba. The institution has received over $380K to construct Indigenous gathering spaces at its campuses in The Pas and Thompson. UCN also recently expanded in Thompson with the opening of the North Forge North Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab) in partnership with community partners such as North Forge. The Fab Lab will open to the public this fall and will be used to support the development of businesses and products. “University College of the North has a significant role to play, not only in education and training but in helping communities and people develop skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurial capabilities,” said UCN President Doug Lauvstad.
