UWindsor supports health sector with nursing training program, exploration of health and innovation park

The University of Windsor has announced that it will be developing a 10-week training program for its senior nursing students that will prepare for work during a health-care crisis. The program draws on UWindsor research that showed that nurses are leaving the profession due to mental health struggles and distress. Lead researcher and psychology professor Dana Ménard has received $406K from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to develop the program, which will later be offered at UWindsor’s Faculty of Nursing before being expanded to the University of Ottawa and Queen’s University. UWindsor and the Windsor Regional Hospital are also exploring a potential partnership that could see a new health and innovation park developed on land purchased for a future acute care hospital.
