The Government of Alberta has reportedly signed off on “exceptional” tuition hikes for select programs at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. The UAlberta programs’ tuition will increase by as much as 104% in some cases this Fall. Increases will only apply to students admitted in Fall 2022 and beyond. UAlberta Students’ Union President Rowan Ley argued that students do not feel that the increases are justified. AB Minister of Advanced Education Demetrios Nicolaides told CBC and the Calgary Herald that the province has also approved “exceptional increases” for UCalgary’s BSc engineering, medical doctor, and Master of Business programs.
