CUPE Local 1295, which includes Brock University facilities workers, has unanimously voted in favour of a strike mandate. The union has reportedly asked for a wage increase to cope with inflation and better job security in the face of a proposal to reduce casual workers’ working hours from six to four. Brock stated that it has been bargaining for a new collective agreement with the union since spring and will attempt to reach a deal on Thursday. The St. Catherine’s Standard reports that, if the union strikes, it will be the first time it has done so in its 52-year history.
