Faculty strikes have commenced at Ontario Tech University and the University of Lethbridge, reports CBC. Over 280 Ontario Tech faculty members went on strike on Thursday after negotiations broke down. “Our workload concerns predate the pandemic, COVID-19 only exacerbated them,” said acting Ontario Tech faculty association president Kimberly Nugent. Faculty at ULethbridge also went on strike Thursday morning after failing to forge an agreement. Faculty say that their salaries are 17% behind comparable universities, and also raised concerns about workload, equity, and respect issues. “We think this is just a sad day,” said ULethbridge’s Faculty Association president Dan O’Donnell. “[W]e’ve been trying for two years to reach an agreement.” CBC (Ontario Tech)| CBC (ULethbridge)| Lethbridge Herald (ULethbridge) Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
