The Nanji Family Foundation has made a $1M gift to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to assist refugees in pursuing health-related university studies in the countries in which they are seeking asylum. The donation commemorates the Nanji family’s 50th anniversary of arriving in Canada after being exiled from Uganda and is intended to support refugees just as the Nanji family was supported after coming to Canada. Over 50 refugees studying in health fields will be given scholarships to support their higher education. “[I]f God gives you opportunity, try to share it,” said Pyarali Nanji of the Nanji Family Foundation. “First of all, you have to make sure that you are taking care of your family, your community, and then the whole country.” CBC| UNHCR Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
