NOSM U, Lakehead, UOttawa, municipalities partner to test CityStudio framework, improve local health outcomes

A collaboration that brings together NOSM University, Lakehead University, the University of Ottawa, and the cities of Thunder Bay and Ottawa has received a $1M grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The grant will be used to improve local health outcomes by bringing together researchers, universities, and municipalities and evaluating the impact of city-campus engagement on population health. The CityStudio framework of city-campus collaboration will be implemented and studied for three years, during which time the two cities will identify successes, challenges, and unique differences. “One of the challenges in researching community engagement is that it’s a very complex phenomenon,” said project lead Dr Claire Kendall from NOSM U. “Untangling all of these different aspects to see what’s actually going on is a lengthy, and frankly, quite difficult process, which is why it hasn’t been done before.
