Students in Halifax are protesting a 25% rental hike that was recently announced at an Atlantic School of Theology’s residence, which is scheduled to take effect this Fall. Students have reportedly organized, protested, and put up signs and flyers about the increase. The residence—which offers housing to more than 100 students from AST, Dalhousie University, NSCAD University, Nova Scotia Community College, Saint Mary’s University, and the University of King’s College—reportedly has the lowest dorm rental rate in the city. “I don’t blame them for being upset,” said AST President Rev Heather McCance. “Anybody would be upset with that kind of a jump. We looked at the possibility of spreading it out, but frankly, there are costs we need to recoup.”
