OCT certification delays frustrate teacher grads

The CBC reports that recent teaching program graduates are facing significant delays in receiving their teaching certificates from the Ontario College of Teachers. Some graduates have received temporary teaching certificates, often after having waited for months or even a year, but these certificates do not help them to find permanent jobs and place their career in an uncertain position. Graduates also report waiting on hold for three to four hours when trying to inquire about their applications. An OCT spokesperson stated that they have been receiving a higher-than-normal number of documents, calls, and emails, and are increasing staffing to bring wait times back to normal.
