Professors, librarians at USainte-Anne go on strike

Members of the Association of Professors and Librarians of Université Sainte-Anne have gone on strike as of last Thursday, reports CBC. The professors and librarians are requesting a rebalanced workload and pay equity with professors from English-speaking institutions. USainte-Anne administration is reportedly “somewhat perplexed” by the union called off the conciliation process after six sessions. Union spokesperson Jean Wilson said that the negotiating team had been surprised by the “constant refusals” of the administration. “Everybody was taken aback, saying, ‘OK, what is it — a new strategy?’” said Wilson. Students are concerned about the impacts of a strike held this late in the semester and the possible impact on the end of the academic year.
