SFU adopts university-wide open scholarship framework

Simon Fraser University has announced that it is the first in Canada to adopt a university-wide open scholarship framework. Open scholarship is a research practice that makes scholarly knowledge accessible to anyone, with the goal of maximizing the impact of research on society and involving society in scholarly pursuits. The open scholarship framework outlines guiding principles that emphasize the importance of equitable practices, open sharing, and respecting research participants. To support the integration of these principles across SFU, the university and the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute have partnered to establish a $1M endowment. “This framework will play a key role in our efforts to support students, staff and faculty across the university who are producing innovative research that makes a difference for BC and Canada,” said SFU President Joy Johnson.
