SFU launches Indigenous language master’s degree

Simon Fraser University has established a Master of Arts in Indigenous Languages and Linguistics (INLL) program. Individuals who are preparing to revitalize their Indigenous languages will gain the skills and knowledge they need to combat the linguicide that has been faced by Indigenous peoples. The two-year program will involve cohorts formed around particular languages, though students can choose to learn more than one language. The program will use Indigenous ways of enquiry and linguistic analysis, feature Indigenous community participation, provide mentorship opportunities with Indigenous elders, and give students support from advanced fluent speakers from Indigenous communities. INLL will be delivered using remote and face-to-face instruction. SFU Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
