Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig’s campus now features a 60-foot Aajijaak (Crane) symbol. The Aajijaak symbol was used by Ojibwe Chief Shingwauk as his signature, including on the 1850 Robinson Huron Treaty that was signed on behalf of 23 First Nations. The symbol installed on SKG’s campus represents the Chief with his feet firmly planted in SKG University’s Medicine Garden and Teaching Lodge, and his face turned to the institution’s main building to “watch his vision come to fruition.” “We honour Chief Shingwauk and regularly thank him and our many ancestors and Elders who have contributed to Shingwauk’s Vision being realized,” stated the institution.
