St Francis Xavier University has announced that its Mulroney Hall has received LEED® Gold certification. The building was designed to meet the LEED globally recognized environmental building standard in seven categories: Site sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design process, and regional priorities. The building is heated and cooled using geothermal energy, houses two solar panel arrays, and has a reflective roof to combat the heat island effect. It includes space for alternative transportation, such as bike racks and electric vehicle chargers, and is landscaped with hardy native plants to reduce water usage.
