UCalgary receives over $67M from estate of Joan Snyder

The University of Calgary has received a donation of $67.5M from the estate of philanthropist Joan Snyder, who passed away in April of this year. $35M of the gift will go to the Cumming School of Medicine’s Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, while $30M will be used to establish the Joan Snyder Fund for Excellence in Kinesiology to help correct the gender imbalance in the field. The remaining funds will go towards the Joan Snyder Program of Excellence in Women’s Hockey and UCalgary’s libraries and cultural resources to support the preservation of art and other collections. “Joan Snyder was a true friend to our community,” said UCalgary President Dr Ed McCauley. “It’s not an exaggeration to say the University of Calgary’s research excellence has been catalyzed by her support.” CBC| UCalgary Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
