UQAM launches certificate in Québecois sign language

News

Université du Québec à Montréal is launching a certificate program in langue des signes québécoise (LSQ), the Québecois sign language. The program—which UQAM says is the first of its kind—will provide learners with a solid foundation in LSQ to ensure that they can both understand and use the language. UQAM linguistics professor Dr Anne-Marie Parisot explained that, when combined with a major in interpretation, the program will help address the shortage of sign-language interpreters in the province.
