USask receives almost $4M to support research on environmental changes in the Boreal Plains

The University of Saskatchewan has received funding of almost $4M to support research on environmental changes in Western Canada’s Boreal Plains. The five-year funding includes an NSERC Alliance Grant of $1.87M and other cash and in-kind support from partner agencies. Research will focus on building the necessary resources and knowledge to conserve the Boreal Plains ecosystem while ensuring the needs and values of residents are safeguarded. The project aims to slow environmental change and buffer its impacts, and includes a training plan and milestones to help communities effectively respond to changes. The project will see academics from SK, Alberta, and Quebec come together with First Nations and Métis groups; industrial partners; and the governments of SK, AB, and Canada.
