VCC community protests termination of English program for newcomers

Instructors and students rallied earlier this week at Vancouver Community College to protest the termination of the college’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. LINC will close by the end of March due to federal funding cuts to the program that were announced before the winter break. City News reports that the cancellation will impact more than 800 students and leave more than 30 instructors without jobs. VCC spokesperson Charnelle McClure stated that the college is committed to the LINC programming and will advocate for the government “to continue funding VCC’s historic LINC contract as part of key settlement services the federal government is responsible for.”
