YorkU announces PhD program in disaster emergency management

York University has announced that it will be launching a PhD program in Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) in September 2025. The program will link academic study and professional development, focusing on issues relating to disaster management and mitigation. It will include faculty mentorship, relationship development with DEM practitioners, and the development of teaching and public outreach skills. “We are extremely proud to be able to offer Canada’s first-ever PhD program in DEM,” said YorkU Director of the Graduate Program in DEM Aaida Mamuji. “Our research-active faculty, our domestic and international collaborations, having the ADERSIM Lab right on campus and our vibrant York community, we hope, will make our incoming doctoral students thrive as they pursue higher education in disaster studies.”
