York University has condemned a 15-page toolkit published by CUPE Local 3903 that called for its members to collectively divert the focus of their tutorials for a week in January to focus on Palestinian liberation efforts. CP24 reports that the Jewish group Hillel York feels targeted by the toolkit and that dozens of students have expressed concerns about their potential mistreatment from teaching assistants. In a release, YorkU President Rhonda Lenton said that the toolkit was not “in accordance with the rightful expectations of the University as an employer, the needs of the students and the legitimate claims of the community” and noted that the university’s senior administration has written to the union to discuss the rights that students have to learning the course curriculum.
