Métis Nation BC breaks ground on first daycare centre in northwest BC

Métis Nations BC recently gathered with Terrace city council members to break ground on a new daycare centre. The centre will be Métis Nation BC’s first daycare in British Columbia’s northwest and its fifth in the province overall. It will have space for 44 children, from infants to school-age children. The $4.4M project is being constructed on the former Terrace Co-op property, which the Terrace Standard states is located near the city’s downtown core. “It’s exciting for the community,” said Métis Nation BC representative Susie Hooper, adding the location makes it very walkable. As part of its agreement with the city of Terrace, the organization will reportedly be donating part of the land parcel to the city in order to accommodate street improvements and the construction of a cul-de-sac for emergency vehicle use.
