Cambrian, Queen’s, UOttawa unveil initiatives to eliminate waste, boost sustainability

Cambrian College, Queen’s University, and the University of Ottawa have introduced initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability. Cambrian installed the OscarSort trash sorting system, which scans disposable items and guides users on proper disposal protocols to reduce landfill waste. Queen’s is installing carbon-sequestering field turf as part of its revitalization project for Nixon Field. This initiative will also extend Queen’s partnership with Canadian Wollastonite to provide students with experiential learning opportunities. Meanwhile, UOttawa launched the Free Food Alert program, which alerts students if there is leftover food from meetings or events held at the institution. This allows UOttawa to reduce food waste and help alleviate student food insecurity at the same time.
