Russia deems Carleton, U of T global affairs programs to be ‘’undesirable’’ organizations

Russia has labelled Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy “undesirable” organizations. The country asserted that both university faculties are part of a campaign to “discredit the Russian Federation and incite anti-Russian sentiments” and have met with representatives from “countries with anti-Russian orientation.” Carleton subsequently advised anyone affiliated with the school to avoid travelling to Russia or Belarus, as they “could be subject to criminal punishment.” Simon Fraser University Associate Professor Nicole Jackson told the Vancouver Sun that targeting postsecondary institutions could be seen as an attack on academic freedom.
