Postsecondary institutions need to provide more support to midcareer faculty of colour to help them thrive, write Sydney Freeman Jr and Laura W Perna. Freeman and Perna argue that institutions should evaluate their policies to determine whether they support midcareer faculty of colour. The authors encourage institutional leaders to consider the goals of these faculty members and the resources needed to help them achieve their goals. Freeman and Perna also argue that institutions should consider the allocation of resources and the availability of external resources. The authors recommend implementing coaches and sponsors who can go beyond a mentorship role by providing supports such as feedback, constructive guidance, and nominations.
