UMFA welcomes MB’s decision to not appeal, says fund distribution will take “several weeks at least”

The University of Manitoba Faculty Association says that it welcomes the Government of Manitoba’s announcement that it will not appeal the MB Court of Appeal decision upholding a $19.4M award. “It comes as very welcomed news,” said UMFA President Orvie Dingwall. Dingwall noted that the attorneys for both sides of the case will need to conclude legal formalities before the funds can be distributed to members: “We’ll have several weeks at least, if not a few months of the lawyers doing the things that they need to do to make everything official.” Once the association is in receipt of the cash, the UMFA will reportedly establish a process to determine and review the amounts allocated to members, with the hope of having the money in members’ bank accounts by the end of the calendar year.
