Acadia announces permanent pool closure, community expresses disappointment

Acadia University has announced that it will permanently close its pool in June 2025 and discontinue its varsity swim program. After consulting with an outside engineering firm, Acadia determined that fixing the aging pool would cost $7M and require two years of repairs. The firm raised additional concerns with the pool, including structural deterioration, leakage damage, and groundwater pressure. Members of the community have expressed their disappointment with the closure announcement, drawing attention to the fact that the pool is the only one in the town of Wolfville. Wolfville Mayor Jodi MacKay communicated to Global News that she is committed to reconvening conversations with the community and university about the pool’s future.
