The Government of Canada has shared how it will implement Team Canada Strong to support skilled trades training. The Apprenticeship Training Grant, launching in 2027, will provide apprentices attending mandatory in-class technical training with a $400 weekly top-up in addition to Employment Insurance. The Build Canada Apprenticeship Service will connect apprentices with jobs at small-and-medium-sized employers. The Team Canada Strong Youth Placements program will connect youth with paid job placements in the skilled trades for up to four months. Finally, tradespeople who earn certification in eligible Red Seal trades will be able to apply for a $5K completion bonus. Canada is also discussing bilateral agreements with provinces and territories that would provide access to pre-apprenticeship and technical training.
