At McGill University, education faculty represented by Association mcgilloise des professeur·es d’éducation (AMPE) have voted in favour of a five-day strike mandate. According to the Montréal Gazette, AMPE is negotiating its first collective agreement with the university, and AMPE president Dennis Wendt stated that the union has been in negotiations for more than a year. The association’s members are seeking wages comparable to other education professors at Canadian universities; a pension plan similar to Université de Montréal; and improvements to academic freedom protections, tenure and promotion processes, and working conditions for contract academic staff.
